Chiefs Scholarship Award

Each year the Chestermere Chiefs will be awarding up to 2 scholarships to deserving alumni to support post-secondary education.   The “Chiefs Scholarship” is $500. Candidates must meet certain criteria to be considered. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have been a club member with the Chestermere Chiefs for at least one full season

  • Graduating student or a student at a post-secondary institute and be between 17 and 22 years of age, proof of enrollment in post-secondary and/or vocational training is required

  • Must have a minimum C+ average

  • Must show good skills as a player, referee, coach, or administrator in the club

  • Demonstrates good citizenship, character, and leadership in the community



 Breakdown of decision-making criteria

  • Years involved with the club as a player-20%

  • Time spent volunteering with the club as a referee, lines person, coach or whatever capacity with preference given to those volunteering at least 5 hours per year after graduating from the Chiefs -30%

  • Community participation, and leadership -20%

  • Overall financial need-30%


Submission requirements

  • A copy of the Alberta Highschool Transcripts, or similar document from other jurisdictions where required

  • A letter from a coach, manager or other Chestermere Chiefs official indicating the candidate’s participation, and contribution to the club

  • A resume which should list, at a minimum, the years in which you were involved with the Chestermere Chiefs and in what capacities, any awards you may have received, and descriptions of any volunteer work.

  • A 1-page single-spaced cover letter explaining why you believe that you are a deserving recipient of this scholarship.  Included subsection addressing each of the following points:

    • What post-secondary institution have you chosen to attend and why?  What program have you chosen to study and why?

    • What have you done to prepare yourself for your chosen post-secondary school and program?

    • In what ways has participation in the Chestermere Chiefs program contributed to your personal development and growth?  How will you transfer your learnings from your time as a Chief to your life moving forward?



  • All documents must be submitted by August 15 for consideration for the upcoming fall semester. Documents can be submitted through the Chiefs website.

  • Although no evidence of involvement is required, applicants should be prepared to provide proof of their involvement in the club should evidence be requested by the committee.

  • It is the responsibility of the candidate to see that the application is complete and that all the required information, documents, and letters are enclosed with the application and are readable by the scholarship committee.

  • After the decisions have been made, the scholarship committee is happy to answer application-specific questions by applicants to better serve them on future applications.  However, inquiries from parents, coaches, or any other non-applicant will be disregarded, and no response will be given.

  • Any successful applicant will be required to accept the award at the Chiefs annual banquet the year the scholarship is awarded.  We would love to have you there in person but understand this may not be possible, a Proxy may be designated in your place.

  • The Chestermere Chiefs will not be placing preference on specific post-secondary institutions.  Academic pursuits will not be given preference over apprenticeship or other post-secondary programs.
